ReefLog — Privacy Policy

ReefLog is a local-first logbook for saltwater aquarium keepers. This policy explains what data the app stores and how it is handled. It reflects how the app works today; if the app changes, this policy will be updated.

Data the app stores

ReefLog stores the following on your device only, in the app's local database:

No account for local use; no live sync

No analytics, tracking, or ads

Based on the current app, ReefLog contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. Network access is used only for Google Play Billing (ReefLog Pro subscriptions) and, if you opt in, the Pro Cloud Backup feature described below; the app does not otherwise send your reef data off your device.

Cloud Backup (optional, Pro)

ReefLog Pro includes an optional Cloud Backup feature (Settings → Cloud Backup). It is off by default and is only used if you choose to. Local JSON backup/restore and CSV export remain available for free without any account.

ReefLog Pro

ReefLog has a Free vs Pro feature set (Pro unlocks managing multiple tanks and tracking advanced trace parameters). Core reef tracking, safety warnings, local reminders, CSV export and local backup & restore remain free, and your existing data always stays accessible.

ReefLog Pro is sold as a subscription through Google Play Billing (using Flutter's standard in-app purchase support — there is no third-party billing provider). When you purchase or restore a subscription, your payment and purchase/subscription status are handled by Google Play under Google's own terms and privacy policy. ReefLog does not collect or receive your payment card details, does not collect your name or email, and does not create an account; it stores only a small on-device marker so Pro keeps working offline. Nothing is uploaded to any ReefLog server. If a build has purchases disabled, no purchase data is processed at all.

Enabling purchases requires the Internet permission (used only for Google Play Billing); ReefLog still has no analytics, ads, or cloud. The app's store data-safety disclosures are updated to reflect purchase data before any release that sells ReefLog Pro.

Export and backup files you create

You can export the active tank's readings and dosing history as CSV, and create a full JSON backup that includes all of your tanks. These files are created at your request and are shared or saved using your device's standard share sheet or file picker.

Once you choose to share or save an exported file, it leaves ReefLog and is handled by the app or service you select (for example a files app, email, or a cloud-drive app). That destination's own privacy policy then applies. ReefLog does not upload these files on its own.

Restoring a backup

When you restore, you pick a backup file with your device's file picker. Restoring replaces the app's current local data with the contents of that file.

Reminders

ReefLog tracks how long it has been since you last tested each parameter, and when recurring maintenance tasks (water changes, glass cleaning, etc.) were last done, and highlights which are due or overdue — entirely on your device.

You can also turn on optional local reminders for individual parameter tests and maintenance tasks. These are scheduled and shown locally on your device — there is no cloud push, no server, and no account. ReefLog asks for notification permission only when you turn a reminder on (never at first launch), and you can leave reminders off entirely. If you deny notification permission, the in-app due/overdue highlights still work. No reminder data ever leaves your device.

Deleting your data

Children

ReefLog is a hobbyist tool intended for adult aquarium keepers. It is not designed for or directed at children.

Dosing safety

ReefLog calculates dosing estimates from the values and product strengths you enter, and records what you dose. It does not dose automatically. Always verify your test results and follow your product's label instructions. You are responsible for what you add to your aquarium. ReefLog is a logging and calculation tool, not professional, medical, veterinary, or scientific advice.

Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices change (for example, if a future version adds a new feature that processes additional data), this policy and the app's store data-safety disclosures will be updated before that change ships.
